ICE and Water Shield

Difference Between ICE and Water Shield and Synthetic Underlayment.

ICE and Water Shield

Every so often I get a customer that asks why we prefer using Ice and Water Shield (peel and stick) rather than just synthetic underlayment.  As a licensed roofing contractor in Central Florida, I will explain why I believe using ICE and Water Shield as an underlayment barrier is a superior choice compared to synthetic underlayment.

First, it provides Superior Waterproofing:

ICE and Water Shield is renowned for its exceptional waterproofing capabilities. In Florida, we are susceptible to heavy rain, and occasional tropical storms are common, and having a waterproof barrier is crucial.  ICE and Water Shield is self-sealing, which means it creates a watertight seal around fasteners like nails and screws. This extra level of protection is vital to prevent water intrusion during heavy downpours.

Second, its Longevity and Durability:

With the intense heat and UV exposure that Central Florida gets, our roofing materials wear faster over time. ICE and Water Shield is designed to withstand extreme temperatures and UV radiation, ensuring that your underlayment barrier remains effective for the long haul.  In addition, it is also resisted to tearing and cracking, making it a better and more durable choice that can hold up under the harsh Florida sun.

Third, Ice Dam Prevention:

While ice dams are not a common problem in Central Florida, they can still occur during the occasional winter cold snap. And sure enough, the ICE and Water Shield’s name speaks for itself in this regard. This peel and stick product acts as a barrier to prevent both ice and water from infiltrating your roof, adding an extra layer of protection in rare cold weather scenarios.

Fourth, Peace of Mind:

Choosing ICE and Water Shield can give you just that. Knowing that your home is protected by a premium underlayment barrier.  This roofing product is often considered the gold standard in the roofing industry, and many homeowners appreciate the added security it provides.

Lastly, Warranty Considerations:

Some roofing manufacturers may require the use of ICE and Water as part of their warranty conditions. This means that by opting for ICE and Water Shield. You may also ensure that your roofing system remains under warranty, giving you added financial protection. Moreover, having this product as part of your roofing system may also give you a discount on your insurance premium. Check with your insurance carrier for additional information.

In summary, while synthetic underlayment can be a suitable choice for many roofing projects. Synthetic underlayment is a water-resistant product where ICE and Water Shield is waterproof.  Its durability, and peace of mind, makes it an excellent option for homeowners in Central Florida.
